Join us for practical guidance in implementing a strengths-based approach that identifies, celebrates, and promotes access to key Positive Childhood Experiences critical to the health and thriving of all children. We will review the research behind Positive Childhood Experiences, how that research led to the development of the HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) Framework, and what individuals can do to create a village that prioritizes equitable access to the Four Building Blocks of HOPE to promote resilience for all children. Whether you’re a direct service provider, prevention partner, educator, or community organizer, come learn about how you can use the HOPE framework in the work you do to support the children and families in your community.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the research behind Positive Childhood Experiences

  2. Practice using Type 2 thinking to see strengths first

  3. Review the Four Building Blocks of HOPE and how they promote health and wellbeing

Preparedness for Emergency Response in Tennessee Toolkit (PERTT): An Early Relational Approach- Recovery in Practice

In Part 3 of the Emergency Response Toolkit Training, participants will focus on recovery following emergencies, with an emphasis on healing, resilience, and restoring a sense of safety for infants, young children, and their caregivers. This session highlights how to implement recovery practices that are developmentally appropriate, relationship-based, and trauma-informed.

Through practical strategies, guided reflection, and real-world application, child welfare professionals and foster families will strengthen their ability to support emotional well-being, rebuild routines, and foster secure connections in the aftermath of crisis. Participants will leave with tools to promote resilience and support long-term recovery for both children and the adults who care for them.

This is a two day virtual workshop. Attendance is required for both days. Facilitating Attuned Interactions is a model from the Erikson Institute that promotes self-awareness of providers and increased attunement to caregivers that results in improved professional/parent relationships and improved service recipient outcomes. FAN has been a core framework for pediatricians, mental health clinicians, foster parents, home visitors, and child welfare professionals across the US. The model emphasizes slowing down interactions with service recipients to increase focus on relationships, which has been shown through research to decrease the amount of time for families to reach their identified goals.

Midday Moments

The goal of reflective spaces is for participants to feel seen, heard, and understood. These sessions offer a space to pause, slow down, and process the complex emotions that come with parenting children who have experienced adversity in early childhood. Reflection is a core component of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health principles. Those who engage in reflection often report feeling more grounded, protected against burnout, and reconnected to the heart of their work.

Take a break from the weight of foster parenting, and join us in a supportive space just for you. This is a place to process it all—the challenges, the victories, and everything in between.

Whether you need to talk about the hard moments, share stories of hope, or simply be heard, you’re not alone here. Bring your lunch, refill your coffee or tea, and give yourself the gift of reflection, connection, and renewal. Take a breath. Take a pause. These are your Midday Moments. Because the work is hard, but you don’t have to carry it alone.

Refill & Reflect is a relaxed, supportive space for child welfare professionals to pause, breathe, and talk honestly about the work we do. This job asks us to carry heavy stories, navigate tough systems, and keep showing up—often without much time to process any of it.

Whether you’re dealing with a hard case, celebrating a small win, or just feeling worn down, you’re welcome here. Come as you are. Bring your lunch, refill your coffee, and connect with others who get it.

This is a chance to reconnect with why you do this work—and hopefully leave feeling a little more supported, grounded, and filled back up.

No pressure. No fixing. Just space to reflect, feel supported, and reconnect.

Refill your cup. Reflect on your impact.

Midday Moments

  • Association of Infant Mental Health in Tennessee (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Description: Take a break from the weight of foster parenting, and join us in a supportive space just for you.

Presenters: Sarah Manley Judkins, MSW ECMH-E and Leah Tolbert LPC-MHSP(t)
