TN IECMH ECHO EBHV Session - Bridging Languages, Building Trust: Best Practices for Working with Interpreters
Date: October 5, 2026
Time: 10am CST / 11m EST
Description:
Effective communication across languages is about more than translating words, it is about creating connection. Bridging Languages, Building Trust: Best Practices for Working with Interpreters is an interactive training designed to help professionals strengthen relationships with families while working alongside interpreters.
Participants will explore the role of the interpreter, practical strategies for preparing for interpreted conversations, and ways to keep the family at the center of the interaction. Through reflection and a real-world scenario, participants will practice communicating clearly, responding to nonverbal cues, checking for understanding, navigating misunderstandings, and creating opportunities for families to share their perspectives.
Participants will leave with simple, relationship-centered strategies they can immediately use to help families feel seen, heard, respected, and included during interpreted conversations.
Come together for a brief presentation followed by collaborative opportunities to discuss best practice, difficult situations, and how we can best support each other while serving caregivers and the little ones they love.
Whether you’re new to home visiting or bring years of experience, you’ll leave with fresh insights, space to reflect, and practical strategies to help every participant feel seen, supported, and genuinely welcomed.
This virtual community is open to ALL home visitors in Tennessee!
